STAITHE
Containers over SSH

Support

Staithe for iPhone and iPad · iOS 18 and later

Getting started

What does my server need?

SSH access, and Docker Engine with its docker command. Stacks need Docker Compose. Staithe installs nothing on the server: it signs in over SSH and runs the same docker commands you would, and shows each one.

Can I try it without a server?

Yes. On first launch, tap Explore the demo host. It shows every feature on made-up containers, and nothing connects anywhere.

Can I reach a server behind another one?

Yes. In the host’s settings, choose a jump host. Staithe connects through it, as ssh -J does.

When a host won’t connect

Staithe names the cause on the host’s card and offers the fix.

“couldn’t find docker”

Staithe looks for docker on the PATH and in the usual places for Linux, Homebrew, Synology, snap and OrbStack. If yours is somewhere else, tap Set docker path and enter it.

The user isn’t in the docker group

Staithe never sends a password to sudo. The card shows the command that adds your user to the docker group; run it on the server once, then reconnect.

Rootless Docker

Non-interactive SSH sessions don’t load DOCKER_HOST, so docker looks for the system socket. When Staithe finds your user’s socket, tap Use this socket. Every command then shows the DOCKER_HOST=… prefix it runs with.

“Staithe can’t use your local network”

Staithe needs Local Network access to reach hosts on your Wi-Fi. Tap Open Settings, turn on Local Network for Staithe and come back; it reconnects by itself.

The host key changed

The server is presenting a different identity from the one you trusted. If you rebuilt or reinstalled the server, review the new key and tap Replace key and connect. If you didn’t change anything, don’t connect until you have checked with whoever runs the server.

Containers, logs and stacks

Where do I see what Staithe ran?

After every action, the bar above the tabs shows the exact command; tap it to copy. Settings › Command log keeps them for each host, with how long they took and their exit codes.

Can I undo a stop?

Yes, for a few seconds after it, from the bar above the tabs.

How many log lines does Staithe load?

200 by default. Change it in Settings › Logs › Lines to load, up to 5,000.

Why don’t I get notifications?

Staithe has no server, so it can’t tell you when a container stops while the app is closed. When you open Staithe, it shows what changed since you last looked.

Can I open a terminal on the host?

Staithe manages containers. For a terminal, files or port forwarding, open the host in Portholt.

Trial and unlock

How does the trial work?

Everything works for 14 days, free. After that, one host of your choice keeps working fully and your other hosts stay readable until you unlock Staithe once. Change the free host in Settings › Plan.

Is it a subscription?

No. You pay once and keep it. The unlock works on every iPhone and iPad signed in with the same Apple Account, and with Family Sharing your family can use it too.

I paid, but Staithe is locked

Open Settings and tap Restore purchase. Make sure you are signed in to the App Store with the Apple Account you used to buy it.

Refunds

Apple handles all payments, so refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
